I Support Community Blog
Twenty-five years ago, I was young, new to the Naperville area, and was seeking a way to meet people my age as well as get involved in the community. Fortunately a good friend and business contact told me about the Naperville Jaycees (http://www.naperjaycees.org/) – a group of young professionals who work hard to raise money for donation back to the community but have a lot of fun and friendship at the same time. After my first meeting I was hooked, and have been a member since 1988!
Over the years, I have served on the Jaycees Board of Directors, held various officer positions, and was honored to be named the Executive Director of the 1996 Last Fling Labor Day celebration (http://www.lastfling.org/ ).
Through these positions and many more, I learned how to manage budgets and volunteers, contribute to the vision of a large dynamic organization, and meet life-long friends at the same time.
Whatever your reasons or interests, there are so many opportunities for giving out there! Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin. Each little bit of effort makes a huge difference to charities that are struggling in these tough economic conditions: volunteering several hours of time, a small donation of food or other non-perishable goods, a few dollars a week.
